From Cruise Port: Dunedin
Visit one of New Zealand's most renowned eco-tourism areas and the country's only castle.
Enjoy travelling the coastal roads of the Otago Peninsula then onto the high road for the most picturesque scenery towards the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Otago harbour with Dunedin city on the other. Our first major stop is Larnach Castle - New Zealand's only castle. Views from the top of the tower are spectacular and the beautiful gardens complete this enjoyable award-winning experience.
We will then drive a bit further up the peninsula past the seaside settlement of Portbello onto Taiaroa Head where we will stop for lunch (at your expense) at the Royal Albatross Centre (with the added bonus of maybe seeing a Royal Albatross or two flying high above).
Then it's on to stunning Nature's Wonders where we will take a one hour guided tour in a small coach over farmland to the wildlife viewing area, and enjoy some magnificent scenery on the way.
Here amidst truly spectacular scenery, are the world's rarest penguins (Hoiho the 'Yellow Eyed'), the Little Blue Penguin, New Zealand Fur Seals and cormorants (shags) all living in their natural environment.
We return to the city via the low road for the most picturesque scenery harbour drive back to the city.
Back in town you will visit iconic sights such as Baldwin Street - the world's steepest street and Dunedin Railway Station before returning to your ship by the required time.

This is not a zoo or a man made sanctuary—this is a rare opportunity to see the real deal, to be in a small, untouched, pristine corner of something truly unique. You have the chance to be surrounded by young seals, their mothers, males fighting for dominance in a remote piece of private land being cared for by a dedicated family determined to put nature first. We were driven to private beaches where the only footprints were those of the extremely rare yellow-eyed penguins. One was standing on the secluded beach, shared with a few seals. We were amazed by baby blue-eyed penguins in their nests waiting for the return of their parents who were out in the Pacific fishing. Giant albatrosses soared overhead. If you are in Dunedin and can do only one thing, this should be it. You will come away inspired forever.

Is this tour suitable for wheelchair users?
Due to the terrain and vehicles at Nature's Wonders, this tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or persons with limited mobility. Larnach Castle also has limited access for wheelchairs.
Will I be collected and dropped off at the ship?
Yes, the tour guide will meet you by the ship at Port Chalmers and drop you back there in plenty of time to board before the ship departs.
Will we definitely see the wildlife?
We can not guarantee that the wildlife will always be seen, but our experience is that this is almost always the case. Seals are always to be seen but the Penguins can sometimes be hard to see.
Where does the tour start from?
The tour begins at the ship berth at Port Chalmers. Your guide will meet you alongside the ship before a short transfer to Dunedin city centre where you have some free time to explore before departing for the Otago Peninsula.
